koRn
I awakened today to the following disgusting imagery on the Discord (view at your own risk): Spoiler Clearly whoever thought that was appropriate was inspired by the following (deleting browser history after this): Spoiler Therefore, at this point I believe it's open season on pizza topping, you can basically shove whatever you want on there. However, as someone who puts KETCHUP on pizza in order to give it a sharper flavour, I cannot exactly declare war on mankind for their poor pizza-related decisions. My question to everyone is, what sort of unusual toppings would you think of adding on a pizza? Single or combination, anything goes. Bonus points if you actually did it in reality and can describe the taste. Personally, I would go for the following: -Bacon -Black pudding -Sausage -A side of gravy (i.e. for when it's too dry, an issue that consistently comes into play when you reach the crusts) This is not a drill. I repeat, this is not a drill. Edited January 21 by koRn Multi-tasking. 2 Link to comment
Sazen
It's funny you post the kiwi one.. since @Seane Gheeso had also posted that in a server we're in, in relation to a debate about pineapple on pizza. Lol I can't say I'd do anything weird or unpopular... I'm just an all meats pizza kind of guy haha. Link to comment
Ken_Solo
Good thing I did a search on black pudding first, because I thought you were referring to pudding, something like this: I'm a classical pizza guy though: mozarella, funghi, quattro stagioni... nothing special. But pineapple on pizza is good tho, prove me wrong Link to comment
Helena Revan
My favourite pizza topping is Italian sausage, which if that's not what it's called everywhere, is the kind that's cut into irregularly-shaped chunks. My father used to order us pizzas that were half sausage, half Canadian bacon (a bit like ham, but stiffer), since that was his favourite topping. I always preferred the sausage, but now that I'm grown up and have ordered Canadian bacon myself, I like it too. I usually buy sausage and pepperoni. I didn't actually get to try pepperoni on a fresh pizza for many years, but I really do like it. My local Pizza Hut seems to have stopped using real sausage, and now only offers something called "chicken sausage", which I think is an insult both to sausage and to me as a customer. It should be labeled "imitation sausage", since real sausage should never be made from poultry. And as a result, I refuse to order from Pizza Hut until and unless this change is reversed. Normally I just get normal cheese (mozzerella in the US), normal marinara sauce a a base. But my father liked thin-and-crispy crust instead of normal (hand-tossed) or pan/deep-dish (the really thick kind), and I do too. It's best eaten fresh, since it gets soggy when reheated. Since I usually want leftovers, I like to order two pizzas, one thin-and-crispy, one regular (pan costs extra). I recently got a thin-and-crispy from Papa John's, but it wasn't very good—might have been a bad night for the crew, so I may try again, or maybe their crust recipe just doesn't work with that type. Now, I think pineapple actually works well with ham or Canadian bacon as a topping. I have no issues with it. It's also good with garlic parmesan sauce (the white kind) instead of marinara, but both ways are good. I haven't tried chicken as a pizza topping, but I imagine it could be good. I just haven't wanted to try it. Some people have chicken and pineapple instead of ham and pineapple, but ham and pineapple are traditional pairs, and I like that. I haven't tried kiwi! I doubt any pizzeria here offers it. But it looks like it would be very sweet and seedy. Not sure that's what I want on a pizza! My bottom line is, if you like certain pizza toppings, that's fine. Just like if you prefer Pizza Hut (well, maybe I'm still angry with them), Papa John's, Marco's, East of Chicago, Domino's, Little Caesar's, or the shop down the street from you. Don't worry if someone else doesn't like your favourite pizza. If you like anchovies, then that's the right topping for you! Helena 1 Link to comment
Warlock
I can't really think of too many weird toppings because in my 20s, I worked in many pizza places as both kitchen staff and delivery. I've even run lines before, and we would experiment with different combinations or toppings because eating the same thing every day gets boring. I have seen it all from East of Chicago's peanut butter and jelly pizza to several kinds of dessert pizzas. The one we made at one of the local chains involved a sweet cream cheese fluff that basically made it a cheesecake pizza. I've had pizzas with anchovies, pizzas with corn and mayonnaise (Japan is weird, no those aren't the only toppings but still weird), classic Neapolitan pizzas with almost nothing but those whole basil leaves, pizzas with spinach and feta, "taco pizza," "cheeseburger pizza," meatballs on pizza, and of course I've even had the controversial pineapple on the even more controversial "Hawaiian" pizza. Like Ken and Helena, I think it's pretty good. I even think pineapple with pepperoni and green peppers is pretty good. I will say though it doesn't go very well with sausage. Also, TIL that Canadian bacon is actually a thing that is different from ham -- my parents loved it but I was told by my pizza coworkers that it's the same thing. I read Helena's post and decided to look it up. It's apparently called "back bacon" elsewhere in the English-speaking world. It's basically thin-sliced cured pork loin. I'm starting to think pork loin is my favorite cut of meat ever considering how much I already liked it. I guess if I were to choose something "weird" it would be eggs. An egg is just not something I'd ever think of putting on a pie, so it's an interesting thought. However, I've heard that "breakfast pizza" might exist, though I've never seen one in the wild. It would be kind of like a pizza quiche I guess, with a fluffy scrambled egg wash instead of the sauce and stuff like breakfast sausage or spinach. Might be alright. KanGy
Well i've heard they put banana on pizza in Sweden, that i would not dare to try haha. I'm not sure if it's uncommon, but sour cream on a pizza is very good! that's a common "topping" here in finland. Finnish blue cheese on a pizza is also a big thing here, but that's not for me xD edit: OH i totally forgot, they also put reindeer on pizza here. I have never tried it myself..... Helena I should not stay up so late and post things. Clearly. Yes, I don't think anyone wants a sweaty cheesecake pizza no matter what kind of fruit compote is added to the top. lol Also, Kangy...holy hell. A sour cream pizza with reindeer, banana, and bleu cheese? Scandinavia just broke the internet! Edited January 22 by Warlock Forgot to reply to Kangy 1 Link to comment
Dragon
bacon i tried, not bad sausages, sliced ofcourse.. i tried.. wasn't impressed, kinda ruined it for me a bit.. i would try a pizza that's got the chicken tandoori thing going that my mom sometimes makes.. spicy, not too much tho.. somehow i think apple would not be bad if we tried fruits.. i mean, it'd be like the apple pie apples taste-wise, who knows other than that, well.. you'd have to try hard to ruin pizza for me(curse the kiwi, pinapple and olives people). so.. yea 1 Link to comment

^Çhêêr
I'm quite fond of Red Onion and mixed Peppers on a pizza (along with a meat topping like either chicken or Pepperoni). As for sauces etc, a like a nice sour cream or garlic and herb, usually smash the toppings/cheese portion and dip the crust in! Pretty starving after typing this haha Edited February 24 by ^Çhêêr Autocorrect shenanigans Link to comment
Chips
I used to work for a pizza joint and beforehand I didn't go for mushrooms, jalapenos or pineapple but you gotta mix it up over time. Default picks pepperoni pineapple with or without jalapenos Sausage, onion, mushroom, oregano Anything buffalo chicken, bbq chicken or pesto is bomb TLDR no meatlovers and no insane topping amounts Link to comment
Ken_Solo
That reminds me of a classmate who once said to me I should try fries on a pizza with mayonaise, because it was heaven 👼 Never tried it 👀 Who confirms? Link to comment

Ken_Solo
I was talking with a colleague last week about pizza. I was joking and said he should put spaghetti on his pizza. He tried it and he liked it 1 Link to comment
Warlock
I've had an "Italian meatball" pizza but spaghetti is another level. I can't imagine it would be "bad" but at that point, is it still pizza or just combining dishes? lol Link to comment

-Sly-
Thin crust, pesto base, sun-dried tomatoes under montamore/mozzarella mix, ham, sausage, jerk chicken, pepperoncini or banana peppers, mushroom trio (button, shiitake, portobellos) cooked in beef tallow, caramelized onions, a light topping of sharp cheddar, and a swirl of jerk sauce on top, maybe a few pieces of pineapple for added sweetness pops.
